I Am Reflection

I thought the example of the nature of organisms was incredibly interesting.  The red deer example was very eye-opening.  People or at least I think of animals as leaning on the experience of their most senior and wise members.  In the example with the red deer, this is simply not the case.  Each deer not matter how young, old, or sickly gets a vote on when the herd goes to the watering hole, and which watering hole they go to.  I don’t think we really think of animals as being democratic, but this example shows something very interesting about the nature of animals.  Famous political scientists such as Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke have suggested a dictator is necessary for humans to live peacefully because their natural state is “Nasty, poor, brutish, and short”, while Locke has suggested a social contract is necessary to live.  It appears that creatures as simple as deer are able to live safely and happily with a simple one head one vote system.
